Find out about the services we offer in our physical rehabilitation centers.

For us it is important to publicize the services that our team offers to the families we serve on a daily basis. Here we share what services are, a bit of history and how we contribute to our society.

How did SER come from Puerto Rico?

SER de Puerto Rico is conceived as The Society of Disabled Children and Adults in response to an unfavorable social context, since during the 40s and 50s the country had faced the blows of the polio epidemic. In February 1950, three citizens committed to health, especially in the field of rehabilitation, Guillermo Atiles Moreau, president and director of the State Insurance Fund, Dr. Herman J. Flax, vice president and head of the Physical Medicine, with the collaboration of Professor René Jiménez Malaret attend a congress on rehabilitation in Washington DC. Upon their return to the Island, they incorporated the first chapter of the Society of Disabled Adults and Children of Puerto Rico.

For more than seventy years, SER de Puerto Rico has maintained its mission of providing uninterrupted medical, therapeutic, and educational services to children, youth, and adults with disabilities and autism so that they have an equal opportunity to live, learn, work, and recreate in their communities to the maximum of their potential in an independent, productive, participatory and self-sufficient way.
