SER of Puerto Rico is declared Heritage of the People
SER DE PUERTO RICO We reached a new and significant milestone: our organization was officially recognized as a heritage of the people through the signing of Law 16-2026 by the Governor of Puerto Rico. This designation validates 75 years of continuous service, social impact, and commitment to people with disabilities on the Island.

San Juan, Puerto Rico, November 2025 The Santurce Crabbers' new season kicked off with a heartfelt tribute to one of Puerto Rico's most admired figures in the non-profit sector. During the opening ceremony, the franchise officially dedicated the season to Nilda Morales Sandoval, president and CEO of SER of Puerto Rico, in honor of her transformative leadership and her legacy of more than four decades serving people with disabilities and their families.

SER DE PUERTO RICO celebrates 75 years of uninterrupted work, marking a milestone in the history of rehabilitation and services for people with disabilities on the island. What began as a pioneering initiative in 1950 is now a leading organization with a comprehensive, humane, and transformative vision.
Democratizing rehabilitation using technology as a bridge
During Rehabilitation Month, we spoke with Dr. Ricardo Ayala Jiménez, the first pediatric physiatrist to work full-time at our San Juan center. Although his path to physical therapy first led him to study engineering, his entire education has served to make him passionate about his profession and a champion of the idea that, through technology, we can bridge the service gap, democratize rehabilitation, and improve the quality of life for many children and their families.
Puerto Rico's SER trains police cadets to work with people with autism
In an effort to improve the quality of life and safety of people with autism and their families, approximately 550 Puerto Rico Police Bureau (PRPB) cadets received specialized training from the Puerto Rico SER team. This workshop aims to equip officers to respond appropriately in emergency situations involving individuals diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
